Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) underwent significant changes to improve the experience of travelers at the airport. June 2013 marked a significant milestone in this endeavor – the unveiling of Phase I of the LAX Enhancements project designed by HLB Lighting Design and architect AECOM. The LAX Enhancements project dramatically improves the LAX traveler’s experience with a design that captures the spirit of Los Angeles. A unique design, site, program and strict standards necessitated the application of innovative and agile problem solving methodologies throughout the entire project. The success of this ambitious project was due to the synchronized efforts of HLB Lighting Design, AECOM and project consultants.
“Los Angeles is a progressive city that is constantly innovating and in flux – the team sought a design that would be forward-thinking and inspirational but simple enough to be timeless,” states Teal Brogden, HLB’s Senior Design Principal. “Combining the dynamically changing light ribbon with the aerodynamic light sculptures reflects this trademark LA culture. Customized LED technology is pivotal to the success of the design, enabling discrete integration of light and architecture.”
