A LIBRARY IN A BASEMENT?

As seen in Architectural Record’s October issue, NYC’s 53rd St. Library embraces the need for light as it sits below 50 stories of the new Baccarat Hotel and Residences. Bringing both natural and electric light into this 2-story below-grade library was the primary challenge.

A carefully orchestrated lighting design became a strong architectural statement showcasing glowing ceiling fins mixed with warm wood tones. A unique obstacle for our team was trying to conjure a sense of natural light into the space… without actually feeling like you’re in a basement!
