Cambridge Public Library

Location: Cambridge, MA
Architect: William Rawn Associates, Architects; Ann Beha Architects

Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design collaborated with William Rawn Associates and Ann Beha Architects on the $50.5 million renovation of a new state-of-the-art public library facility. The original building is an important community landmark that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.  Our scope included both the new glass wing and the existing 1887 Van Brunt and Howe original building. Of particular concern was lighting the murals in the main reading room. Originally created in 1934 as part of the Works Progress Administration, the Murals were re-lit with xenon strips to bring out their rich colors.
