Bar Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Warmly uplit canopies illuminate an atmosphere of French flair and Boston charm.

Located within the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston’s Back Bay, world-renowned French chef Daniel Boulud has rolled out his newest culinary home, Bar Boulud, based on his successful locations in New York and London, but with new twists designed for the Boston location. A significant lighting challenge was presented — re-use as many existing light fixtures as possible in new locations while designing within the brand’s highly creative design and layout, producing a top-notch restaurant experience customized for Daniel Boulud’s sophisticated clients.

In order to transform the existing space, original halogen AR111 and PAR36 accent lights were dismantled and carefully re-installed throughout, while new LED accent lighting and pendants were added alongside new features. Color blending of the two sources was critical. Wooden vaults sweep the ceiling and emulate wine barrels, which are dramatically uplit for a glowing effect.
