Project Description

Light-filled spaces featuring vivid colors create an invigorating place to work, learn and educate.

A 100,000 SF dynamic renovation on the UMass Amherst campus at Furcolo Hall has changed the way students and faculty feel in their new college of education spaces. Sparking an innovative style, HLB worked closely with the design team to establish lighting criteria that flowed with their vibrant and collaborative schemes. HLB’s scope of work included the main entry, faculty, graduate student and administrative offices, conference rooms, computer labs and classrooms, cafe, and unstructured learning areas. Using as few light sources and manufacturers as possible, a simple yet compelling lighting palette defines spaces through the use of recessed, pendant mounted, and wall mounted fluorescent slots. The project is cost-effective, easy to maintain, and pleasing to faculty and students alike.
