USC – Glorya Kaufman International School of Dance

Step by step illumination rises to the occasion.

The impressive Glorya Kaufman International School of Dance dazzles with a 200 seat studio theater, dance performance rooms and dance studios. HLB worked closely with Pfeiffer Partners Architects on the interiors of the building, including the lobby and unique performance spaces.

The lobby stairs showcases an art deco chandelier fixture given to the school by mega donor Glorya Kaufman. HLB worked closely with Ms. Kaufman to restore each pendant and bring her vision to light. The stunning chandelier highlights the aborigine staircase in the space, emphasizing the exterior building colors of red clay brick and beige.

HLB combined the artistic and technical nuances of dance into a show stopping, lit experience. The lighting of the coves in the lobby and corridors emphasize the artistry in dance, while the lighting in the dance rooms highlight the technical aspect of movement. In addition to the studio theater lighting, dance performance rooms and studios, HLB’s scope of work included the wellness room, administration suite, open and private faculty offices, Reception, and collaboration/lounge area.
