907 Main Hotel

Cambridge, Massachusetts
United States

Originally built in 1871, this five-story boutique hotel was designed to enhance the neighborhood’s eclectic identity. With 67 guestrooms, two restaurants and bars and an outdoor patio, the client envisioned an intimate atmosphere where light creates a warm and welcoming environment for guests to enjoy.

HLB was challenged to blend historical sophistication with hip, chic lighting solutions. In the lobby, guests are greeted by light mixed with shadow play. The globally inspired first-floor bar features sombrero-esque pendants with black cylinders that disappear against the dark ceiling, providing a layer of ambient lighting. High quality efficient LED fixtures with carefully controlled optics were specified to work within the client’s budget and still provide the intended effect for the design.
