Lighting design at the Bunker Hill Steps was limited to the redesigned landscape planter beds coursing along the elegant stairway which rises to a multi-story grade. Replanted gardens create verticality and ground plane interest, allowing light to escort the visitor along. Careful implementation and arrangement of the landscape uplighting was planned to avoid glare while maintaining proper balance of light in support of the spectacular views of the city.
The design team paid close attention to the illumination of monumental planter pots interspersed among the stair procession. The desire was to create a self-illuminated effect, ensuring that light sources remained concealed, lending mystery even when viewed from a distance below.
