Colby College’s new athletics complex provides a state-of-the-art athletic experience, serving as the epicenter for athletics, recreation, health and wellness on campus. At night, gently filtered interior lighting reveals the inner structure and the translucent envelope, producing an elegant glow. The volume of the spaces is expressed through implementation of uplight throughout, significantly increasing visual comfort by reducing contrast ratios with sports lighting. The simple, architecturally integrated lighting strategies for public spaces, combined with highly efficient sports lighting, create a bold, inviting central sports venue for students and faculty alike, signaling a new chapter for Colby athletics and recreation.
