Johnson County Courthouse

Olathe, Kansas
United States

Beyond its primary purpose as a judicial hub, this seven-story courthouse stands as a fresh new face among its more subdued, traditional surroundings. The renovation was focused on consolidating and refining primary space types, including the building’s 28 courtrooms.

In the main entry vestibule, visitors are greeted by an art piece with carefully integrated lighting that redefines its appearance after dark. Lighting of the circulation on upper floors was critical to defining the building's appearance at night. Despite a fast schedule and budgetary restraints, HLB delivered a lighting scheme that fulfills the project’s modern vision through sustainable and cost-efficient means.
