Long Island Railroad Penn Station 33rd Street Entry

New York, New York
United States

The renovation of this major rail transportation hub transformed a gloomy underground station into a lofty, vibrant commuter train hall. With the specific intent to deliver a bright and visually interesting environment, the lighting design combines modern general and accent lighting with a custom dynamic ceiling that reveals content reflective of the season and significant holidays.

Within the challenging architectural terrain of the existing 100 year old facility, the lighting design guides travelers to and from their trains, blending carefully applied color and movement with luminous statements reflective of the modern language of the architecture. These evocative interventions revitalize the commuter travel experience, creating a unique sense of place at this landmark station.
