Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television

Los Angeles, California
United States

The distinctive layered architecture of the Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television provided a unique canvas for a cinematic lighting approach. The building’s perforated brise-soleil obscures its external corridors during the day, but at night it seemingly evaporates as single lines of continuous LED luminaires transform the facade into a “silver screen” that celebrates the movements and activities of students. The homage to film is carried through to the central ground level pedestrian portal ceiling, which is studded with an arrangement of cylinder downlights that alludes to movie theater marquees of the past.
