The overall design is structured around connecting patients to nature in child-friendly environments. To support the holistic approach to the patient experience, daylight is incorporated into spaces whenever possible.

The main lobby, public corridors, and children’s play areas feature curving stepped cove ceilings with concealed luminaires to provide indirect ambient lighting, soft vertical wall illumination, and assist with wayfinding. Low level recessed circular steplights are integrated into patient corridors to provide visual interest during the day and low-level floor illumination at night. The Story Corner incorporates moving theatrical fixtures and color-changing cove lights programmed with effects to create an immersive experience and positive distraction for patients.
