HLB worked closely with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to develop lighting concepts that promote a warm and inviting atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors alike, with the goal of making an undeniably stressful experience as pleasant as it can possibly be.

One of the primary design challenges was to maintain a balanced spread of light, despite the varying clusters of downlights that comprised the “starry-night” design pattern across the ceiling. These groupings were zoned separately to match the luminance of densely populated areas with more sparsely populated areas. HLB collaborated with Eventscape to create custom pendants that resembled petals in order to bring the concept of a “canopy of leaves” to life. Color temperature was a key factor in execution of the design to preserve a consistent and gentle glow throughout the affected areas.
