Rice University Moody Center for the Arts

Houston, Texas
United States

Open to the public, the Moody Center for the Arts is dedicated to trans-disciplinary collaboration in the arts, sciences, and humanities, and establishes a new arts district on the campus. HLB provided both electric and daylighting design services on this project. Multiple layers of light highlight architectural forms and continue a visual patterning established in the entry lobby. Lighting systems for the galleries were conceived with flexibility in mind. Feature lighting for the main circulation stair provides wayfinding cues and uplighting from clerestory ledges that enhance the three-dimensional depth of the ceiling and space at night while providing a soft indirect general illumination to the space below.
