St. Croix River Crossing

Oak Park Heights, Minnesota
United States

Spanning almost five miles, the St. Croix River Crossing took nearly 30 years of design resulting in a unique and hybrid structure — a part cable-stay and part box-girder bridge. Sensitive to the significant environmental concerns in the area, HLB developed a lighting design that enhanced the unusual extradosed towers while concealing and containing the light sources.

Low light levels and color temperatures were crucial in preserving the beauty of the structure’s natural surroundings. Custom-designed lighting of the shared use path was integrated into the railing system to minimize light trespass while providing safe nighttime passage for pedestrians and bicyclists.
