Winter Retreat Residence

Aspen, Colorado
United States

Set against the rugged elegance of Aspen’s mountain landscape, the "farmhouse chic" architecture of this Winter Retreat Residence celebrates its surroundings with a palette of natural materials that invites and endures. The architect’s distinct vernacular called for lighting that enhanced the material richness without visual clutter. In the great room, HLB crafted a strategy of indirect illumination—nestling warm light within trusses and coves and mounting fixtures to the beams to preserve the architectural purity of the ceiling.

Collaboration with the interior designer yielded three bespoke fixtures, each echoing the home’s handcrafted sensibility. Throughout, the lighting reinforces a sense of intimacy—from the sculptural statement pieces to nuanced details like the master bathroom’s two-sided mirror. Precise dimensioning and material mock-ups ensured that each moment of light was seamlessly integrated and completely concealed.
