Zeiss Innovation Center California

The ZEISS Innovation Center brings together several business groups that were previously spread out among separate locations into a cohesive workplace with a variety of spaces including demonstration areas, showrooms, and a cafeteria.

Designing for a forward-thinking optics company presented an opportunity to use light as a building material, not unlike glass or steel. Soft indirect lighting adds transparency to the building from the outside while creating a jewel box aesthetic to reinforce architectural design elements. Lighting of the atrium’s sawtooth ceiling resembles a skylight, creating a soothing environment. This thoughtful integration of light throughout the building creates a comfortable luminous environment, promoting wellness for all.
