University Hospital Sky Tower

Growing at light speed – the quality of light illuminates the quality of life for University Health System.

HLB Lighting Design collaborated with Perkins + Will on the new University Hospital, Sky Tower, a nationally recognized teaching hospital. The new hospital is twice as big as the old one, at about 2 million square feet inclusive of two existing towers. This project includes a new 12-story addition and renovation to the existing hospital campus. HLB’s scope included public spaces, lounges, public circulation, emergency lobbies, and the patient tower.

In addition, the design team developed patient room and corridor studies to identify the most energy effective lighting solutions with quality of light for patients and staff. Lighting calculation studies for the lobby, entrance and porte-cochѐre for aesthetics, functionality and energy optimization were used to demonstrate the overall approach.
