Veterans’ Glass City Skyway

Toledo, Ohio
United States

Collaborating with local artists, HLB translated work created in various mediums into kinetic light scenes that play across the structure’s tower, while maintaining visual quality and creating a safe environment for motorists. In addition to working with local artists, HLB designed a number of unique shows which include a variety of themes from the American flag, to snowfall, and local football team colors.

The new lighting system allows for more granular control of the lighting, with per foot control in each tower quadrant. The sophisticated design is equipped with a robust dimming system, allowing the owner to make manual changes to the shows and the calendar remotely. The lighting upgrades reduce maintenance time and costs, increase the flexibility of the system, and most importantly, provide new opportunities to engage the Toledo community and anyone fortunate enough to view the bridge at night.
