Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge

Worcester, Massachusetts
United States

Elegant, curved arches are enhanced with low levels of light from below the deck to highlight the beauty of the structure without imposing upon the lakeside residents. At the bridge abutments, two 50-foot tall sail-shaped sculptures are nighttime icons with a lighting system that wash the steel surfaces with color-changing light. Cool white LED handrails contrast with the warm roadway lighting to define the walkway, while accent lights on interpretive panels and city seals create secondary focal points for pedestrians and bicyclists.
