University of Washington Founders Hall

Seattle, Washington
United States

The University of Washington Founders Hall is a complementary addition to the existing Foster School, creating a cohesive complex that enhances the exterior open space while providing innovative and collaborative workplaces.

The building’s mass timber structure is celebrated with exposed wood ceilings, resulting in visible electrical conduits and light fixture mountings. To maintain a seamless integration with the architecture, luminaires are strategically mounted to walls and beams. Wireless lighting controls were also implemented to allow flexibility in the wiring of luminaires. To prevent conflicting efforts between office lighting and ceiling fans, luminaires were mounted to beams within the overall room module, further enhancing flexibility within the space while supporting the building’s reliance on natural ventilation.
